New "Woodland Reading Sanctuary" Opens at Edward Feild
Back
Edward Feild Primary School has officially opened its new forest-themed library, replacing a 30-year-old facility with a modern "Woodland Reading Sanctuary."
The project was the culmination of a year-long community fundraising drive during the National Year of Reading 2026. Award-winning local author Jo Cotterill joined pupils for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating a space designed to help children "escape" into their books.
Highlights:
- Funded through "Colour Runs," bake sales, and local donations.
- Features "seating pods" and a forest school aesthetic to encourage calm, imaginative reading.
- The library houses 2,500 books for pupils of all ages.
Headteacher Scott Lewis said: "After three decades with our old library, our community came together to build a true sanctuary. It is incredibly rewarding to see our pupils enjoying a space that feels like an escape."
Project Lead Chris Tupling added: "The woodland theme brings the benefits of forest school indoors, providing the perfect environment for a lifelong love of literature."
