Following a successful application process, Claire Starkey, Development Manager for Friends of Cherwell is delighted to announce that The Wolfson Foundation has awarded a transformative £90,000 grant to the Cherwell School for the refurbishment of their Design & Technology facilities.

This investment is an incredible opportunity, and will be used to create a dedicated Design Room for modelling and prototyping, and to fully-refurbish the Engineering Room on North Site. Creating state-of-the-art facilities, it is hoped that these refurbishments will inspire young designers, equipping them with industry-standard technology, and helping them to develop the skills they need in school, for further education and/or for the workplace.

More funding required

While this grant has made a hugely positive impact on covering the cost of these amazing renovations, the School now faces the exciting challenge of filling the refurbished rooms with the cutting-edge tools and equipment they deserve. Their goal is to ensure the technology matches the quality of the new spaces, maximising the impact of this investment.  Therefore, to supplement this Wolfson grant, they have recently launched a fundraising appeal with their school community to fund this further equipment:

  • An industry-standard CNC machine and an engineering lathe
  • A dedicated digital hub with 5 new design PCs & software, plus a clever touch teaching screen
  • Essential heavy-duty workbenches and student safety seating

You can support this appeal by donating here.

We wish them every success!
